The Ministry of Energy and Mining in social network X announced a nationwide power outage. The post noted that experts have already begun to "activate the protocols for restoring electricity supply."
According to the Cuban authorities, the accident occurred on power lines in the western part of the country, which led to the collapse of the system in this region and the subsequent disconnection of the eastern part of the island.
The official edition of Granma reported that the situation was also complicated by "unstable" weather conditions.
Before dark, electricity was restored to 5% of consumers in Havana, where according to official data there are about 862 thousand subscribers.
In some provinces, microgrids were created for the distribution of electricity. Systems supporting hospitals and other critical infrastructure were also restored.
