“Dutch officials are preparing for the introduction by the United States of a new, tough package of sanctions against the International Criminal Court, as Washington seeks to effectively liquidate this international tribunal, considering that he has exceeded the limits of his powers, "the report says.

According to the agency, the Dutch authorities warned that sanctions could be introduced in the near future. The Netherlands is already considering ways to ensure the further work of the court, in particular the payment of salaries to employees, the protection of witnesses and the operation of the detention center.

According to two sources familiar with the situation, American officials warned their Dutch counterparts that sanctions could be imposed as early as Monday and urged the ICC host country to withdraw from the institution.

The Netherlands and ICC officials hope to get a six-month transition period before the sanctions take effect. They emphasize that the court needs time to stop cooperation with all American companies that may face significant fines for violating sanctions.

Context

It is noted that the new sanctions may deprive the ICC of access to financial and IT services and even complicate the payment of salaries to its employees. When sanctions were imposed on the court's former chief prosecutor in 2025, he lost access to Microsoft email, his bank accounts were frozen, and he was barred from enteringthe United States.
