Pudans stressed that NZS are constantly monitoring the security situation, working closely with Allied intelligence and security services. The situation assessment is updated daily, not just in response to individual events.

Russia may try to exacerbate the security situation in the Baltic states and NATO in general through unconventional attacks, including sabotage, provocations and other attacks of a smaller scale, the Bureau for the Protection of the Constitution (SAB) said.

SAB notes that the number and scale of Russia's unconventional attacks have increased in recent months. At the same time, emotional and disturbing messages about the security of Latvia are increasingly spreading in the information space.

Although the situation in the region has escalated, the likelihood of a conventional attack – a large-scale military invasion – on the Baltic states and NATO is now and in the near future very low, according to SAB.

According to Pudans, the NZS are ready for provocations. Latvia is currently undergoing a comprehensive national defence exercise called Namejs, in which allied units are also involved. In the east of Latvia, the Vilkatis operation is ongoing, and NATO air patrols will be strengthened during the elections to the Seimas.

At a meeting of the NATO Military Committee in Copenhagen this weekend, it is planned to discuss the alliance's joint response to possible future sabotage and attempted sabotage, Pudans said.
